In Early 2012, Mr. Ricardo Ramirez decided to start a small general engineering firm who specialized in Asphalt Paving and Concrete construction. Ricardo and his wife Maria had owned successful construction business in the past and wanted to pass the knowledge on to the next generation so that the family can continue in the industry it knew best. Ricardo sat down with Santino (his grandson) and explained he wanted to start a business, but the family had to be on board. Santino, not knowing the difference between asphalt and concrete, understood his grandfather vision and open his mind to learning this industry that his grandfather had been in for the last 50 years. Once all mutually agreed, On June 12th, 2012, McKim Corporation was born.
At the Start, McKim Corporation fleet was composed of a 1989 Peterbuilt dump truck (The Bestia / The Beast), a 1997 Lee boy paver, a 2003 Bomag Roller and a 1986 Tilt trailer.
In the beginning, Mr. Ramirez sent Santino to the field to work hand in hand with a crew that would cover all the bases of the scope of work McKim Corporation performed. Maria would be the book keeper, and Ricardo was in charge of keeping work ahead of the company and keeping the company on track. As time went on, Ricardo removed Santino from the field and place him with his Grandmother to learn the basics of construction accounting, during this time, Maria taught Santino about all aspects of construction accounting from WIP Reports and Job costing to matching tags with invoices. Later on, Ricardo then pulled santino back to the field and began teaching santino about project management, estimating and quality control. This repetition would cycle from time to time until Ricardo felt Santino was able and willing to take the next step and become president of the company and in February of 2016, Santino became President of McKim Corporation.
Ricardo always reminded Santino, ''you create your own destiny, you want something, go after it.'' Starting on small driveways and parking lots, Santino had a desire to grow the company. As time went on and with growth and a great mentor by his side McKim Corporation did just that. Santino's mind set is '' We aren't were we want to be, and when we think we got to where we want to be, We are still not there''.
Today, McKim Corporation has a growing fleet and over 40 employees, including Truck Drivers, Operating Engineers, Laborers, Cement Masons, Project Managers, Fleet Managers and a Clerical team.
